Information
Yongsan-ri kiln in Gochang is
the very first buncheong ware kiln
excavated in Jeollabuk-do Province. It represents the fifteenth-century buncheong ware together with
Chunghyo-dong kiln on Mt. Mudeungsan in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do Province. Yongsan-ri
kiln yielded significant materials for researchers such as the tiered firing
chambers and ceilings of the kiln that remain today. The kiln is marked by
wares ? mostly in the form of bottles, flask-shaped bottles, large bowls, large
jars, and dishes ? decorated with fish or peonies by incising or sgraffito
technique.
.
This is an extensive exhibition
to feature, for the first time, all the discoveries of the Yongsan-ri kiln
since its excavation and research began in 2001. The exhibition will enhance
understanding of the ceramic culture of Jeollabuk-do Province as well as the
predominance of the region's history and culture. The brisk and simple
decorations of fish and peonies on Yongsan-ri buncheong wares and other types of ceramics, namely, white
porcelain and black-glazed wares, will offer viewers the opportunity to travel
back five hundred years in history.
