On the occasion of the special exhibition

The undersea excavation of cultural heritage objects began in Jeonbuk Province following the report made by turban shell divers on their discovery of a number of items of Goryeo celadon in April 2002. Since then, some 15,000 relics have been salvaged over the past fifteen years in the waters off the Gogunsan Islands (Biando, Sibidongpado, Yamido, etc.). The Jeonju National Museum and the National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (NRIMCH) of the the Cultural Heritage Administration are jointly holding a special exhibition titled “The Dreams of Goryeo People on the Shipwreck” to introduce the fascinating and important work carried out in that period, shed light on the sea route that passed via the Gogunsan Islands, and raise awareness of ancient cultural exchanges with neighboring countries. It is hoped that the exhibition will bring us closer to the dreams and aspirations of the people of Goryeo, as it is ours to do to continue their dreams.
