Information

Excavations in Wanju in Jeollabuk-do Province have uncovered numerous important artifacts, such as a pair of molds use to make bronze daggers and the largest number of bronze mirrors with fine linear design, which have proven to be essential for understanding the development of ancient bronze and iron cultures in Korea. Thus, Jeonju National Museum, in tandem with the Honam Cultural Property Research Center, presents this special exhibition of around 100 of the most interesting artifacts from the region, including glass beads and a diverse array of bronze and iron wares. The exhibition is organized into three main categories: “Massive Excavation of Ancient Tombs” looks at major excavations of sites from that time period, such as the Galdong and Sinpung historic sites; “Wanju’s New Products of Civilization” explores the superior technologies and high cultural levels of ancient Wanju people; and “Wanju, the Heart of Advanced Culture” uses relics excavated from the Geumgang River basin to illuminate the area’s historical profile. This exhibition will take visitors on an enlightening journey to meet the ancient people of Wanju, who used their advanced metal technologies to forge an incredible new culture.
