Information

In 1991, Jeonju National Museum signed an agreement of friendship with Ishikawa Prefectural History Museum in Japan. In 2011, to mark the 20th anniversary of that landmark collaboration, this special exhibition introduces the culture of Japan’s Edo era (江戶時代, 1603-1867), which corresponds to the late Joseon Dynasty in Korea.
This exhibition is especially significant because it is the first special exhibition of the Edo era ever held in Korea. Visitors will experience the charm and energy of the remarkable traditional culture of Edo, which has been carefully preserved in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Also, the displayed artifacts demonstrate the surprising similarities and differences between these crucial historical periods in Korea and Japan. Furthermore, we hope that this exhibition will contribute to the development of future cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan.
